Salt Dough Christmas Ornament

My niece came over last week and I just had to make a Pinterest project with her and my son.  I found this recipe and just modified it by adding food coloring.
Since I knew the kids wouldn't be able to paint the ornament like the one above I made it a little bit easier on myself by simplifying the project.
This how the ornaments looked after they came out of the oven.
My son's hand is pretty large for a 5-year old.  He's big for his age anyway.  But my niece is almost 3 so her hand and ornament isn't nearly as big.
To finish the ornaments I wrote on them with a permanent marker then sealed it with some Satin finish Mod Podge.
Here's my niece's finished ornament:
I was able to finish her ornament and let her give it to her mom & dad on Christmas Eve when we got together.  I put a clip on the back of her ribbon (that's what is shining) so that her parents can either hang it on the tree or let it hang on a nail on the wall like in the picture.
For my son, I let him write his own name and I finished the rest.  His is more simplistic since he is a boy {LOL}.  Here is his finished ornament hanging on our tree:
The recipe that was used smelled like play doh and the kids really enjoyed playing with it.  Since it was just flour, salt, and water I wasn't worried about it hurting them if they licked their hands after playing with it.  I even played around with it myself and made some funky {and ugly looking} ornaments.  But I'm a kid at heart and love to play around, so what can I say?  Here's my ornaments:
I used cookie cutters to cut out the ornaments.  I wanted to make the butterfly for me, because I LOVE butterflies.  I made the star one as an experiment. The three heart one is for me and my boys.  Here are all three ornaments completely finished and one the tree.  {I'm very aware that the ribbon is too big, but like I said, I love to play around so I could care less.

I Want, Need, Wear, Read, LOVE!

Follow the link to find this idea!
I found this idea on Pinterst and knew immediately that I wanted to have my son complete it.  Since he's only 5 I filled in the different areas and had him sign at the bottom.  You can find this idea here.
We put it with Fisbee and he brought back a simple note from Santa.  Luckily for me, I already got 4 out of 5 items on Black Friday... YAY!
